Elissa
was born in Ontario and grew up in North Vancouver. She studied to be
a Graphic Artist at George Brown College in Toronto. She worked in advertising,
printing, display and in the motion picture industry as a scenic artist.
Ever the restless spirit she travelled to Europe and spent ten years living and studying fine art in England. Ms. Anthony spent much time visiting major galleries in Europe, redefining her artistic outlook and garnering as much information about painting and art history as possible. Her unique impressionist style evolved.
In 1997 Elissa moved to Vancouver Island and the move proved inspirational. Her first show in Nanaimo was a success and helped establish her as an up and coming artist both to the public and with her peers whose constructive criticism she values immensely. She has had many one-woman and group shows at The Old School House in Qualicum Beach, Nanaimo Art Gallery, Nanaimo Arts Council and private venues.
Elissa has won awards of merit, and excellence for her work, but the ones that mean the most to her are the Peoples Choice awards.
Her paintings grace homes in Europe, Japan and North America. Elissa was a member of The Federation of Canadian Artists, The Nanaimo Arts Council, Art 10 and is a founding member of the “Centre of the Arts” in Nanaimo. She has paintings in galleries throughout Vancouver Island including Englishman River Art Gallery in Parksville and others in Nanaimo, Tofino and Ucluelet.
When Elissa is not painting she teaches oil and acrylic painting to adults and children at her home studio, The MonElissa Studio in Bowser, BC.
Working primarily in oil and acrylics in an expressionist style to interpret the Vancouver Island landscapes, seascapes and flora, she captures emotion and soul in her work. Her wide range of professional and artisitc skills combined with a unique and funky sense of humour provide a delightful range of moderately priced original art. Her seascapes take you to a beautiful West Coast beach and her flowers uplift and soothe the soul. She shares with others the joys she has found in the art world.
