COMMISSIONS

Commisions are an important part of Elissa Anthony's art work. Inspired by a favorite view or photograph, a previous painting seen in the studio, at a gallery, at an art event or on this website, clients often ask for a commissioned piece or a "redo" of a previous painting. Never exactly the same, commissioned paintings are particularly unique because they are in response to the specific clients' request. They may be a different size or feature different aspects of the image or its colours. For example:

1. Shannon and Mikes Vision

This couple wanted a favourite seascape painted as a diptych. The pictures below show the underpainted rough paintings, mid-progress but lacking details and the completed diptych.

   

2. The View Along the Stairway

The clients wanted paintings of a seascape they love and wanted the paintings to hang on the wall beside their stairs. Elissa created three 'stepped' paintings carefully selected from a single sketch to maintain the continuous horizon and the view while climbing the wall. The pictures below show
a) the sketch and single picture outlines
b) the sketches drawn on canvas and underpainted with the help of two 'apprentices'
c) two views of the finished pieces installed in the clients' home.

 

A commission derived from a previous work:

Many commissions are from "scratch", starting with sitting down with the client(s) and learning what they want to see as the outcome of their painting.

"I like to see photos of the places they like the most and get a feel for how they relax, see the world around them and where they feel they fit in the big picture. This is a very exciting time and creative energy abounds at these gatherings. We all leave energized and I am ready for the work ahead."

The work usually begins from small thumbnail sketches done at the meeting then goes to sketching out a full-scale image that will be tranfered to the canvas. Once the sketches are appoved the clients usually do not see the painting again until it is finished and ready for unveiling.

Original Art Cards by Elissa Anthony

Elissa's Art Cards are hand made by Elissa using high quality reproductions of some of her most popular original landscape and seascape oil paintings. The cards are individually priced at $6.00 each or two for $11.00, but inquiries for volume purchases are welcome. Art images are mounted on Strathmore Writing Paper with various colored decal edged finish suitable for framing. Envelopes to match are included.
